A man from New Jersey was driving – in a hurry – through a small town in Illinois when he was stopped for speeding. The cop told the man he was doing an unbelievable 98 in a 55pmh zone!
The cop then asked the man for his driver’s license, but the man replied, “I’m sorry officer, but after my 5th DUI, they suspended my license.”
The cop then asked the speeder for a copy of his registration. The man looked the cop in the eye and said, “It’s in the glove box, but I’ll go ahead and tell you, it’s not in my name. You see, I stole this car back at the state line. I had to kill the woman who owns the car. Her body is in the trunk, and my gun is in the glove box.”
At that, the officer stepped back from the car, told the man to keep his hands in plain sight, and then proceeded to call for backup.
Given the seriousness of the call, the police chief responded in person. The veteran officer cautiously approached the car, and asked the speeder for his license. The man respectfully provided a Jersey license…which slightly confused the chief.
He then asked the man for his vehicle registration. The driver slowly reached over to the glove box, opened it up, and retrieved a copy of his registration…a registration that bore his full name.
At that point, the police chief was really puzzled. But just to make sure, he said to the man, “I hate to have to do this, but I’m gonna need to check your trunk.”
The two men walked to the rear of the vehicle where the driver graciously opened the trunk, revealing a spare tire, a set of jumper cables, and a flashlight.
The chief could no longer contain himself. “I’m sorry to have disturbed you sir. My officer told me he needed back up because you didn’t have a license, that you had stolen this car, that you had killed the driver, and that you had stuffed her in the trunk.”
The man looked at the police chief and said, “I bet he told you I was speeding too, didn’t he?”
