When realtors visit homes that have been foreclosed, it’s not uncommon for them to find messes, damages, or even bug infestations. They might even find an abandoned pet. But one realtor in Milwaukee had the surprise of his life when he found a dead body.
Talk about a hard resale….
In January of 2012, David Carter’s home was finally foreclosed due to his failure to pay his property taxes. A real estate agent was sent to the home located in West Allis to inspect the property and take possession of it. That’s when the realtor discovered the “nearly skeletonized” body of Carter, the homeowner, lying on the stairs with a bullet wound in his head and a handgun on his chest.
Carter had worked for the City of Milwaukee as a control officer, but after a break up with the mother of his daughter, he quit his job and told co-workers he was moving to New Mexico. Instead of relocating, Carter evidently committed suicide.
But that was in 2007. When Carter’s body was discovered in January of 2012, on the day he would have turned 45-years-old, forensic investigators claimed the corpse had been lying there for approximately four years!
How does a person go missing for that long without someone checking on him? Where were his friends? Where were those who supposedly cared about him? It’s sad to realize that David didn’t have anyone who missed him enough to check on him. He lived alone…and died alone.
In Hebrews 3:13, the writer asks that his audience “encourage one another daily.” That’s really good advice. If David Carter had someone doing that, he’d probably be alive today.
