Lots of people – including Christians – have lots of reasons for not going to church. In reality, they’re nothing more than lame, hollow excuses. For proof, just take a look at how ridiculous it is when the same exact excuses are applied to another important area of life.
If someone used the same excuses for not eating, here’s what it would sound like:
I don’t eat because I don’t have the time to.
I don’t eat because my mom and dad forced me to eat when I was a child.
I don’t eat because some people who eat are also hypocrites.
I don’t eat because there are so many different kinds of food it’s hard to know which one is right.
I don’t eat because restaurants and grocery stores are only after your money.
Sounds just as ridiculous, doesn’t it?
The writer of Hebrews wanted to remind us of the importance of assembling together for worship, prayer, and fellowship:
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)
