Some think they’ve seen Jesus in windows, on the side of walls, and even the occasional grilled cheese sandwich. During the first week of Lent, in 2011, two more families claimed to see images of Jesus, as well.
Looks like Jesus sightings are becoming as normal as Elvis sightings.
Josh Mather, of Mansfield, Massachusetts, was cleaning out his garage when he came across an old pizza tray from a restaurant he formerly owned. When he took stock of the tray, he instantly saw the image of Jesus, and Mary, too.
The discovery left a big impression on Mather. Since finding what he believes is the image of Jesus, the former pizza man has returned to church…for the first time in 20 years.
But during the exact same time, another image of Jesus was discovered, this time several hundred miles south of Mather’s garage, in a tree in a backyard in Virginia.
The Norton family, residents of McLean, Virginia, contacted local news agencies when the face of Jesus suddenly appeared on the side of a tree they’d recently trimmed. Lamya Norton began to notice interesting marks on side of the tree, but on Ash Wednesday, the day which starts the season of Lent in the Christian calendar, she claims the form became unmistakable.
She saw the face of Jesus.
After showing her 6 children, Ms. Norton contacted her priest. According to her, the priest said it was a sign…for her to attend church more regularly.
Bella, the Norton’s 12-year old daughter also sees it as a sign. “It’s a sign that we’re all safe and everybody is loved in our family.”
Of course, it could just be sap from the tree.
Granted, Jesus has been known to show up in some interesting places: walking on a sea in the middle of the night, at dinner in the home of a leper, and the city streets of Jerusalem following His resurrection, just to name a few.
While some squint and muse over patterns of tree bark to see Jesus, others simply turn to His Word where He can be clearly seen every day of our lives. Finding Jesus doesn’t have to be so mystical, so abstract.
Yes, Jesus can show up anywhere He wants because He’s God, but the best place to find Him will always be His Word.
