Tony La Russa has made a name for himself in the game of baseball as a player, a manager, and an executive. He’s been a part of minor league teams…and World Series teams. But his success has never led to complacency.
Even the “accessories” he wears will attest to that fact.
On the night of June 15, 2012, the world held its breath as Nik Wallenda attempted to walk across the actual falls at Niagara. He was successful, and the 1,800-feet-long walk put him in the history books.
But it’s where he walked the following day that truly defines him.
When the scoreboard at Aberdeen High School’s football field fell into disrepair, a few alumni – who just happen to play in the NFL – stepped forward to save the day. They wrote a big check and gave it to the school…along with one condition.

If you were creating your own government, what would you do first? Would you build a strong military? Secure honest leaders? Write just laws or ensure a viable economy?
East Germany didn’t start that way. Their first official act was to apologize to the world.

For then both of us say to ourselves, “The other fellow has to make the first move.” And then I watch like a hawk to see whether the other person will flash a signal to me with his eyes or whether I can detect some small hint between the lines of his letter which shows that he is sorry. I am always on the point of forgiving…but I never forgive. I am far too just.
Running a 5K isn’t easy. The course stretches 3.1 miles long and can be filled with hills and headwinds. Successful runners know it takes a good pair of running shoes, plenty of training, and unflinching endurance to finish strong.
And it doesn’t hurt to have a good running partner, either.
“How few there are who have courage enough to own their faults, or resolution enough to mend them.”
Some people live their lives in such a manner that the only way they can be accurately described is “Christlike.” Those people’s lives are marked by humility, generosity, and sacrifice. In short, they are far more focused on others than themselves.
For many reasons, George Washington was one of those people.
